Make the Most Of Winter Break

It’s officially the holiday season, an exciting time filled with love, laughter, cheer, family reunions and giving back. This time of year also means that winter break is just around the corner. While everyone does enjoy the much-needed break, sometimes it can be challenging to figure out how to spend your time off while entertaining the family.

As winter break approaches in St. Charles County, we know just the thing to make this break the best yet and get you in the holiday spirit! In addition to having fun at Kokomo Joe’s, here are a few ideas for making your winter break one for the books.

Give Back

While the holidays are a time to have fun and be with family, it is also important to reflect on what you have to be thankful for this year. After reflecting, you can participate in physical acts of service with your family to give back to others who may not be as fortunate. These acts of service can be as simple as donating clothes or toys and as hands-on as volunteering at a homeless shelter, soup kitchen or non-profit. Giving back to your community is a great way to remember the reason for the season and can even be a bonding experience for your family.

Bake Cookies

A great way to entertain the kids and get in the holiday spirit is by baking cookies! Baking cookies can be an all-day activity, especially if you bake them from scratch. Get your kids involved in the whole process of baking, not just decorating! While it is a fun way to keep kids entertained, baking together also fosters connections and promotes family bonding. Baking also encourages skills such as reading, math, science and communication. Not only will you have a blast in the kitchen, but you will also be teaching your children essential skills they can use in years to come.

Play Board Games

Board games are a great way to stay entertained and bond with your family, especially if you have family visiting from out of town. On top of simply being fun, there are many benefits of playing board games. It connects people, creates memories, makes their bond stronger and helps people to work as a team.

Have a Movie Night

Planning movie nights are a great way to entertain the kids. You can either plan a family outing and see a movie in theaters or stay home and watch one. If you stay home, go all out with your movie night by getting in your pjs, making blanket forts, popcorn and hot cocoa. You can watch Christmas movies, family favorites or even introduce your kids to some of your old favorites. You can also use this idea on gloomy days.

Explore Your Community

Nothing helps with getting into the holiday spirit and killing time, like participating in local holiday events. Find your local ice-skating rink, drive around and see light shows, take photos with Santa, attend winter wonderland festivals or even go Christmas shopping. You can even use this time to visit local attractions you might have yet to see. If you are in St. Peters, MO, come visit Kokomo Joe’s this winter break.
